Application Sensorless State and Efficiency Estimation for Integrated Motor Systems
Gabriel Haines, Nesimi Ertuğrul · 2019
Efficiency is an important characteristic of motor drive systems. Efficiency improvements can be made through the use of variable speed drives and replacing simple on-off control with more efficient control systems. However, more advanced control typically incurs additional costs from external sensors. Drive based sensorless estimation methods can replace these sensors and reduce costs. Existing methods of torque estimation and pump load estimation are not able to provide accurate estimates over the entire operating area. This paper proposes a new modelling and estimation approach using detailed efficiency map data for an integrated motor-load system. Experimental results are included for the general motor and pump specific cases, demonstrating the improvements of the proposed approach.
