Cyber attacks make a system inaccessible through flooding the network traffic. Recently, increasing cyber attacks are observed against internet of things devices. This paper considers a scenario involving a smart home system attacked by distributed denial of service. The attack starts with directing excessive traffic loads to the system, which makes the service unavailable to valid users. In order to mitigate the attack, the log data in the server is analyzed to detect any possible intruders in the network. A procedure performed in this work is making the policy block to prevent Internet Control Message Protocol from excessive requests To simulate Distributed Denial of Service, attacks in form of successive requests up to 40 times affect an excessive latency of 3054 ms on average.
