Information Security threats and attacks with conceivable counteraction

Preeti Sinha, Amit Kumar, Bharat Bhushan · 2019

In the world of Information security, a target system is attacked by the attacker considering three important paradigms behind it. First one is “Motive or Objective” which defines attacker's motivation or benefits towards performing that particular attack. Second one is “Method” which explains different attacking mechanisms opted by attacker to fulfil his/her objective and lastly its “vulnerability” which acts as an access point for the attacker to get into the target machine. Securing information and content is much more vital and crucial nowadays and to achieve this goal of securing information, it is mandatory to have an extensive study and knowledge about different types of security attacks and threats. This paper presents a detail survey of different information security threats and attacks classified with different categories which includes: Network, Host and Application. Further a relationship between attacks in system and attacks in information is depicted and finally the paper presents attacks and security requirements with different possible mitigation techniques considering hacking phases and methods as a base.
