Advancements in optical character recognition for Gurmukhi script

In this paper, we survey an optical character recognition (OCR) literature on one of the most popular Indic script Gurmukhi. Before focusing on the aspects of OCR works on Gurmukhi, the peculiarities of the Gurmukhi script are outlined. For the sake of clarity, the handwritten, printed, and online character recognition for Gurmukhi script are considered. After proper summarization of all the publications related to this topic, a detailed analysis of the methodologies involved along with scrutiny of the results was performed.
