Underrepresented Groups Threats to Belonging in Computing

Increasing the number of students exposed to computer science (CS) may not increase throughput in the pipeline if barriers to retention are not addressed. One major barrier is student's perception of belonging. To begin creating theoretical grounds for a common discourse to successfully matriculating underrepresented students, and retaining them in the field, threats to their belonging (barriers to retention) and how a survey of literature suggest they impact CS are presented.
