In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), the sensor nodes have restricted battery source. If unbalanced load is generated in the network, it creates energy-hole problem, and affects the network lifespan. In this paper, the sector based energy-hole reduction (SEHR) scheme is proposed for WSNs. The network is sectorized into eight parts, and each parts contains a fixed number of sensor nodes with a dynamic selection of forwarder nodes (FNs). Further, each part is divided into small segments to balance the load of network and reduction of energy consumption. The sectorization of network reduces energy-hole creation problem and improves network lifespan. The simulation results validate that the proposed scheme reduces the energy-hole creation and enhances the network lifespan in comparison of DR scheme.
