Comparative Writing Performance of College Students with and without Learning Disabilities.

The success rate of 56 college students with learning disabilities (LD) was compared with the success rate of a matched group of student without LD on a holistically scored essay examination. It is suggested that failed essays require diagnostic analysis but that the holistic-assessment approach needs modification to meet this demand. If modification is not plausible, holistic-assessment approach can be used as a screening tool to separate out writing samples that require in-depth inspection
