In recent years, greenhouses play a key role in agriculture for almost all the developed and developing countries. Plants are grown in a regulated environment inside the greenhouses. Hence, it is extremely important to monitor different parameters of the environment inside the greenhouses over time. In this paper, we propose an energy efficient statistical model for simultaneously monitoring a number of important parameters. We assume that for the first few time points all the sensor nodes measure the parameters, but after some time some of the nodes are kept in sleep mode so that the overall lifetime of the network is increased. The missing parameter values are then estimated based on the available measurements from other sensor nodes at that time point. We propose two alternative methods for estimating the missing parameter values, and then compare the performances of these methods through simulation studies. Experimental results show that our proposed approach can be practically useful and it is energy efficient.
