Quantitative Analysis of DTMF Tone Detection using DFT, FFT and Goertzel Algorithm

Dual Tone Multi-Frequency(DTMF) is used for communication through a telephone system or over the internet and is considered to be a signaling system. This system finds many applications in the telecommunication field like telephone switching centers, automated calls, in computer applications like voicemail, electronic mail, telephone banking and also for industrial applications. In this paper, we aim to compare three algorithms namely DFT, FFT, and Goertzel algorithm for detecting DTMF tones and how is the computational efficiency and accuracy of detection affected by changing the different factors. We have used MATLAB for simulation of all the algorithms and results are shown in this paper.
