Integrated energy system (IES) is an energy coupling system with multiple phase of supply and consumption. Modeling and simulation approach are blocking the IES researches for itself characteristics of distributed and huge scale. In current case, there is urgent need of a common and standard modeling approach. Focus on the general model for complex energy system simulation, individual-based model (IBM) is applied to process modeling of IES in this paper. IBM describes an energy system component by considering it as an individual, which modeled by the quintuple (or the five-element tuple), no matter how much the component is complicated. The model is demonstrated from its conception and modeling to implementation. Simulation platform fully draws lesson from orient object program (OOP), markup language and agent-oriented technology to make the approach practicable. So, the JAVA Agent Development Framework (JADE), a FIPA-compatible platform is selected as software communication framework. In addition, an IES scenario case is designed to illustrate IBM application. This paper consists of a preliminary attempt on general modeling approach for IES, and it can be extended to more complex energy simulation scenario. The main contribution of this paper is applying IBM to energy system simulation and justified with a technical implement method.
