Image registration plays an important role in medical analysis. Nowadays, it constitutes a very active research field due to the great improvement of the medical imaging technology. Metaheuristics based algorithms such as Genetic Algorithm (GA) , Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) , Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) and Differential Evolution (DE) have been widely applied to medical image registration. Due to the success of the Biogeography-based Optimization (BBO) in the global optimization problems, we present in this paper an improved method for medical image registration using the Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance (MR) modalities. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach achieves high-precision and robust registration compared to the PSO algorithm.
