Quantum Yields and Quenching

In this chapter, I will discuss two “Q” topics, namely quantum yields and quenching. Both of these topics have a long pedigree. e uorescence quantum yield (QY) was a concept introduced in 1924 by Sergey Ivanovich Vavilov. e pivotal paper on uorescence quenching appeared in 1919, authored by Otto Stern and Max Volmer. Let us start with QY.
