Trapped-ion Fock-state preparation by potential deformation

This paper proposes a protocol to shortcut to adiabaticity in order to control the motional state of an ion in a microfabricated trap. By deforming the trap potential it is possible to prepare states with highly excited levels, which are optimal for sensitive measurements.
