A Review on Methods of Script Identification for Printed and Handwritten Documents

A huge research is going on in the field of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) in past few decades as it is the most important for the digitization of documents. Handling is easier if the documents are in digitized form. OCR is the important phase in digitization of documents but OCR is script specific and hence it is difficult to propose an algorithm which will recognize the character irrespective of script. Hence it is necessary to have idea of the script of document for converting it into digital form. Various methods for script identification have been proposed so far. This paper mainly categorized the methods on the basis of format of document that is printed or handwritten. Further we have arrange the paper based on their method of script identification and compare the performance of various method.
