Ground Communication Facility (GCF) upgrade task for the NASA deep space network

An overview of the Ground Communication Facility (GCF) upgrade task for the NASA Deep Space Network (DSN) is described. The NASA DSN is a worldwide multimission telecommunications and radiometric facility. The GCF upgrade task is a six year project to be completed by 1993. The task's goal is to develop and implement improved computing, networking, and communication technology, compatible with the standards established by the Consultative Comittee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS).
