Wireless Networked Control
Zhen Meng, Guodong Zhao · 2019
This chapter discusses the fundamental design capabilities needed to realize future wireless network control (WNC). It introduces background knowledge on industrial automation. The chapter reviews the basic concepts of WNC and explains the main points in communication networks and control systems. It depicts the fundamental requirements when a WNC model is designed. The chapter focuses on the critical variables that have a significant effect on the entire system. It mentions some practical contributions in terms of communication and control co-design. WNCs are increasingly being used in many emerging applications, and will play a crucial role in industrial automation in the near future. Industrial automation will prioritise the transition of safe-critical information as an unexpected message or message delay could cause disastrous consequences. Industrial automation needs messages transmitted in a predictable or deterministic fashion.
