Load balancing is an important means for maintaining the service of a large-scale network environment. Server-clusters at the front end would normally implement a load balancer to improve the traffic efficiency and availability by distributing incoming network traffic. In this work, we aim at evaluating a single cluster load balancing performance of two popular Software Defined Network (SDN) controllers, namely Floodlight and POX. In our performance evaluation, we use a three-tier tree topology similar to a typical data center network to test the performance metrics such as jitter, packet loss, transfer, and bandwidth. Mininet emulation tool is used to run this experiment. The simulation results impart that Floodlight outperforms POX in a single cluster group environment.
