Contribution of the RO-14-ITIM site to ATLAS Computing: recent upgrades

Felix Farcas, Radu Trusca, Jefte Nagy, Stefan Albert · 2019

Since its commissioning ten years ago, INCDTIM's Grid site was dedicated to the computational support of LHC's ATLAS experiment, within the Romanian Tier-2 Federation. As such, in the last decade it has completed all the stages of transforming the offline computing infrastructure that have been requested by the ATLAS and WLCG collaborations in order to update and optimize the HTC services. Following the initiative of the ATLAS Computing management for simplifying the global interaction with the Tier-2s, the site was involved in the recent implementation of structural changes within RO-LCG that were meant to increase the efficiency and lowering the operational costs. As a result, in 2017 the site became ,,diskless”, being exclusively dedicated to Monte Carlo simulations and eventgeneration jobs, that access over WAN the remote storage hosted on another site (RO-07-NIPNE). The last 12 months marked a significant change in site functionality and other major improvements. Thus, we first note the migration of the servers to CentOS 7 OS. Also, in order to upgrade the middleware technology, we changed it from UMD (Unified Middleware Distribution) to ARC (Advanced Resource Connector) middleware, and implemented the SLURM batch system (Simple Linux Utility for Resource Management). After finalizing this process, the monitoring service and perfSonar were updated, and the IPv6 configuration was deployed. This communication will summarize the recent configuration changes and improvements, as well as the overview of the results obtained at site RO-14-ITIM in the last decade.
