Phase Transition and Thermodynamic Diagrams
John Steven Newman, Vincent Battaglia · 2019
The phase transition between a vapor and a liquid is depicted in Fig. 11.1 . We are interested in studying such processes because This is a simple example of phase equilibrium. Multicomponent phase equilibria are of vital interest to chemical engineers in the analysis of separation operations. A phase transition complicates the procedure for the calculation of thermodynamic properties. Refrigeration processes (see Chapter 13 ) frequently involve cycling a substance through the phase transition from vapor to liquid and vice versa .
