A new technique to maximize Energy Efficiency (EE) of wireless cooperative network is proposed in this paper. The transmitted signals from the source are broadcasted via cooperative multi relays in flat Rayleigh fading channel and are received at the destination using Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC) diversity combining strategy. Maximization of EE problem under total power constraint is defined and solved using Lagrange multiplier method for Amplify-and-Forward (AF) and Decode -and-Forward (DF) relaying protocols. The obtained solutions for the defined problem for both the protocols are validated through simulation. The performance metrics considered here are EE and Symbol Error Rate (SER). It is observed that the proposed power allocation outperforms the conventional equal power allocation in terms of reliability. Further, the impact of relay location is also analyzed to obtain maximum EE.
