“I Need a Hug Right Now”: Affective Support Through Remote Touch Technology

Touch is a contextual medium for affective conveyance. It is difficult to assign specific meanings to each instance of touch in isolation. However, when engaged within context, touch becomes a powerful and indispensable means for humans to convey feelings of love, concern, and sympathy. This dissertation focuses on how remote touch functioning with other contextual channels like speech may help to intensify or modulate one's affective experiences.
