The logical format of a floppy disk

Sylvester Tuohy · Pace Digital Repository (Pace University) · 2002

The logical layout of a floppy disk includes the boot sector, FAT (File Allocation Table), root Directory and Data region where the files and sub-directories are stored. All of these areas can be investigated with the program DEBUG.EXE which can be located using the Find command of Windows. This exercise can make the File System chapter from the Operating System's Course have so much more meaning. To illustrate the various regions of the disk, the Debug load(l), write(w), enter(e), display(d) in hexadecimal and quit(q) commands will be used.
