Real live data for CS courses

Nadeem Abdul Hamid · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2018

An increasingly popular context for teaching introductory Computer Science courses is that of working with live real world data: motivating CS concepts and programming using freely available online datasets, often substantial in size, from a wide variety of sources on the Internet. Several recent papers [1, 2, 3, 4], as well as the popularity of textbooks such as [5] that adopt real-world data for examples and exercises throughout, serve as indications that engaging students with such data sources may be a powerful experience that adds relevance to their introductory experiences in Computer Science.
