Teaching SQL performance tuning: nifty assignment
Zahira S. Khan · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2015
In a classroom environment, the database tables used contain only a few rows and SQL statements do not exhibit performance issues. However if the same SQL statements were to be executed in real world applications where the database table sizes may be in millions of records, unacceptably slow performance would result. Teaching students how to write SQL statements and to fine tune them is an important topic that needs to be discussed in an undergraduate Database Design course.
