Web apps in the computer science curriculum: a guide using Heroku, Java servlets, and Postgres

Jeffery Solheim · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2015

The development of web applications (web apps) is an excellent capstone experience to include in the Computer Science curriculum. In developing web apps, students have the opportunity to integrate several skills sets into a single project of significant scope. Such a project can also be an excellent means by which to allow students the opportunity to work together in teams, and to put into practice the concepts of a software engineering course. This paper serves as an introduction to Heroku, Java servlets, and Postgres for the instructor who would like to integrate web applications into the Computer Science curriculum.
