Internet of Things (IoT) has recently gained increased attention because of its ability to make our lives easier. It extends Internet connectivity beyond traditional systems such as desktops, smart phones, tablets and laptops to various other types of devices. This enables communication and interaction with the external environment all through the internet. RPL protocol is one of the main and most growing routing protocols dedicated to IoT because of its natural capability in dealing with networks of constrained nodes. In this paper, we are going to study, analyze and evaluate the performance of RPL's Objective Functions (OF's) in terms of both Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) and Power Consumption (PC), using different network parameters, including Packet Reception Ratio (RX), Number of nodes (N), specifically when N=50 and N=65, and in random and grid network topologies. Results showed that in most cases, OF0 outperformed MFHOF in term of power consumption, while preserving nearly the same performance as MRHOF in term of PDR. Based on that, we conclude that using OF0 in real applications would improve the overall network lifetime while preserving almost the same reliability and performance in term of PDR.
