Putting Reality into Mathematics

As is well known, people differ widely in abilities because of a combination of genetic and environmental factors. One can detect marked differences in such abilities at an early age; and for whatever reason, genetic or environmental, wide variations in the ability to work with mathematical abstractions are observed at an early age. In the upper grades these variations become extremely marked.
