Remarkable developments in the cost of storage and the quality of screen resolution exacerbate rather than solve the fundamental problem that has bedeviled image access from the beginning: once an information manager has several billion images on a storage disk, how will those images be retrieved ? The author discusses the potential of accessing images by keywords, comprehensive descriptions, and visual scanning of images.
