A freshman seminar on problem solving and algorithmic thinking

Edmund A. Lamagna · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2014

Puzzles and games are the basis for a freshman seminar designed to develop mathematical and computational problem solving skills. Students spend class time in small groups actively engaged in solving challenging puzzles or playing a game with a mathematical theme. Topics include planning and sequential movement, probability, logic, positional number systems, elementary number theory, enumeration, proofs without words, algorithms, recursion, and graphs.
