Computer programs: a copyright explosion?
David Bainbridge · ITNOW · 1990
Abstract Until as late as 1985 it was uncertain whether computer programs were protected by copyright in the United Kingdom. In that year the issue was put beyond doubt by the Copyright (Computer Software) Amendment Act 1985 and has been confirmed by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 — which repealed the former Act — the main copyright provisions of which came into force on 1 August, 1989.
