A simple encryption strategy based on addition

A simple cryptosystem is presented that is based solely on the properties of addition. The presentation of this cryptosystem could help computer science majors understand the topic of encryption because its design can easily be explained (and justified). This cryptosystem could also be used as a programming assignment that uses bit shifting and/or bit masking operations.
