Performance Evaluation of the Error Control Scheme with Different Packet Scheduling in Multi-channel Systems

Qian Li, Chunxiang Chen · 2019

In this paper, we propose an ARQ error control scheme for the data communication system with different packet scheduling in multi-channel systems. The proposed ARQ protocol is a combination of Go-Back-N ARQ and Selective-Repeat ARQ protocols. To enhance the system performances, such as the transmission time, resequencing time of the packet, two packet schedulings for sending packets at the transmitter are introduced. In the first packet scheduling, the packet with the smallest sequence number is sent to the channel with the lowest error rate (the best channel first, BCF mode). On the other hand, in the second packet scheduling, the packet with the smallest sequence number is sent to the channel with the shortest round-trip time (the shortest path first, SPF mode). We describe the detailed operations of the ARQ scheme with the proposed packet scheduling, and evaluate the system performances, such as the average waiting time, transmission time, and resequencing time of the packets etc., in both BCF and SPF modes. The effectiveness of the proposed scheduling is clarified by computer simulation.
