The human brain perceives, processes and interprets visual information faster and more effectively than any other kind of information. Visual information processing in the human brain alone occupies one-third of the cortical area. Images therefore are the best means of conveying information. Digital image processing and transmission have been made feasible due to technological advancements in recent times. This paper deals with the transmission of grayscale images using one such technology: Software Defined Radios (SDR) using USRP 2930. Transmission over wireless channel is a challenge. Selection of a transmission frequency, suitable modulation techniques, et cetera are exclusively dealt with in digital communication. Several frequency bands go unused during transmission called spectral holes. Tapping into these spectral holes provide an economic means of transmitting data such as images. SDR implementation is fairly recent and rapidly developing. This paper provides an insight about its feasibility as a highly re-programmable basis for image transmission. The objective here is to transmit a single grayscale image using USRP 2930 along a spectral-hole frequency using different modulation schemes.
