A wireless intermediary for Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is needed in the form of a standard 6LoWPAN protocol (IPv6 Low Power Wireless Personal Area Network) which is an adapted layer from the IPv6 protocol. IPv6 itself was created to replace the role of IPv4, which has now been exhausted. The Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) was released as the 6LoWPAN routing protocol standard. RPL provides unique routing through its DAG and DODAG topology. This research provides an analysis on RPL routing over IPv6 WSN mobility and transmission range. The analysis is carried out through a simulation using the Contiki Operating System version 2.7 and Cooja Network Simulator and analyzed with Wireshark. The number of nodes is varied to show the scalability of the protocol. Results show that through the testing of the RPL protocol, node mobility with the best life-time is when the node moves randomly. On the other hand, the limitation of transmission range provides better life time performances.
