Allan and Hadamard Variance Analysis of Formants during Sustained Pronunciations with Applications
Horia-Nicolai Teodorescu · 2019
During sustained pronunciations of vowels, the subjects are supposed to maintain constant the pitch and formant values, moreover constant amplitude. Large variations of these parameters of the vowels are known to be potential signs of voice conditions. However, there are few metrics and tools today for assessing the constancy of the pitch, and no specific instruments to for characterizing the uniformity of the formants during sustained pronunciation. In a previous paper we suggested the use of Allan and Hadamard variations as a measure of the pitch dynamics. In this study, we propose the use of Allan and Hadamard variations as a viable metric of the formant quality and exemplify the application of these metrics. In addition, the notions F-jitter and A-jitter are introduced and discussed.
