Medical Devices Indoor and Outdoor Location Identification using NB-IoT and Realtime Database

Medical devices and equipment in a hospital are expensive, many devices cost more than a million baht, and there are hundreds of devices. Therefore, each department in the hospital needs to share these medical devices together. A major problem with this kind of situation is when a staff want to use medical equipment, but they do not know where the equipment is located, which department used it lastly, which is a very common issue in the hospital. In addition, in recent years, the research topic in area of indoor location aware services are becoming attractive with the deployment of the next generation wireless networks especially in indoor positioning. For solve this issue, the research team presented a new method for identifying the location of the item both Indoor / Outdoor building, using the new trend technology: NB-IoT (Narrow band Internet of Things) and Realtime Database to help identify the location of medical equipment. In order to save battery life, we therefore must update the location about Latitude and Longitude every 10 minutes. The results from the experiment showed that very high positioning accuracy, with a radius of 0.3-1.5 meters in the positioning accuracy in the outdoor. The indoor area is accurate at 1.5 - 3.5 meters in accordance with the placement of item in the building and signal propagation conditions. To sum up, this method is highly successful and accomplished in identifying the location of medical devices.
