Performance Degradation in Wireless Mesh Networks via External and Internal Attacks

Amit Kumar Roy, Ajoy Kumar Khan · 2019

Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) upraised as superior technology offering all aspects of services as personal networking, social networking, and neighborhood networking. Due to its distributed nature and multi-hop environment, a centralized authentication scheme is not applicable in WMNs. Therefore, WMNs suffers from both external and internal attacks which could decrease the overall performance of WMNs. In the past various approaches had proposed to overcome such attacks to improve network performance and offering an uninterrupted service to the end-users. This paper presents a detailed investigation of various security techniques that had proposed so far and made a comparison based on their performance against external and internal attacks in WMNs.
