Nonlinear dynamics of RTD oscillators

This chapter explores the nonlinear dynamics of oscillators that have resonant tunnelling diodes (RTDs) as the key component and how RTD oscillators can be controlled by either electrical or optical signals. Compared to linear systems theory, nonlinear dynamics provides a much more comprehensive understanding of the behaviour of RTD oscillators. The key dynamic scenarios covered in this chapter include injection locking, period-adding bifurcation, quasi-periodic route to chaos, and excitable neuron-like spiking dynamical phenomena.
