An EANET (Emergency Ad Hoc Network) is a specialized type of MANET (Mobile Ad Hoc Network) that is pointedly applicable to emergency situations typically related with natural and man-made disasters. An Ad-hoc Network is a temporary, wireless network which comprise of a number of mobile devices connected to each other without requiring any centralized base station to sustain the network. EANETs can be set up in a wide variety of situations as and when needed. A comparative analytical study has been performed on the routing protocol AODV and its multipath variant, AOMDV, using the simulation tool NS2. The comparison for both the protocols has been carried out by trace file analysis which was, in turn, converted to a graphical form for a clear visual representation and to enable a better analysis. This was done based on certain performance parameters like packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay, throughput and routing overhead. Simulation result analysis proves that AOMDV outperforms AODV in emergency scenarios because of its ability of searching alternate paths in case of link failures.
