A MANET (Mobile Ad Hoc NETwork) is a network that consists of mobile terminals such as smart phones. In MANETs, information messages can be exchanged directly among mobile terminals using wireless networks so that no centralized server or network infrastructure is required. Therefore, MANETs are very well suited as network technology in emergency situations. For providing the users with adequate evacuation routes, the location and behavior of users must be taken into account. We have already proposed a MANET-based indoor evacuation system for deriving evacuation routes. This paper presents an evaluation framework combining a simulator and mobile devices for supporting the development of the evacuation system. The evacuation guidance system running on a mobile device exchanges messages with the users in the simulator so that the behavior of our software could be evaluated. Various experiments show the suitability of our approach.
