Cerebral Atherosclerosis is narrowing of the arteries caused by a buildup of plaque in the blood vessels of the brain. It is a form of stroke seen in young and middle age group, especially in women which can cause acute neurological deterioration with increased morbidity and mortality if not diagnosed in early stage. To detect Cerebral Atherosclerosis from MRI images image enhancement technique is required. To obtain accurate results from enhanced image it is necessary to do preprocessing technique. Among number of filters used in preprocessing technique of image processing, a comparative analysis of commonly used filters like mean, median, alpha trimmed mean, weighted median, adaptive median, bilateral, Wiener filter is carried out on MRI brain images and optimal PSNR and MSE is determined.
