A Survey: Plane Detection Algorithms of Rock Mass based on Hough Transform

In order to detect the planes and reconstruct the watertight 3D models of rock mass, the characteristics and applicability of different well-known Hough methods are analyzed and summarized through the classification and comparison of the plane-detection methods based on Hough Transform. On this basis, four kinds of typical methods are tested in both simulated icosahedron point cloud and actual rock mass point cloud. Experimental results show that the optimized plane-detection methods based on Hough Transform can be applied to detect rock planes with some post-processing operations. In the end, the development trends are examined.
