The departmental honors project was an extension project that aimed to refine the design of anFPGA-based image processing and classification system by adding a controllable turntable. The design of an FPGA-based image processing and classification system was the Design Clinic Capstone Project I was working on with my three teammates through my senior year. My honors project was to design a controllable turntable for the system. The turntable could expand the view of the camera on FPGA from static to 180° horizontally and rotate at a controlled speed constantly or to a controlled position. The final deliverable included one controllable turntable with an extended board prototype for the DE1_SOC FPGA Board and D8M_GPIO camera and two Arduino sketches/code for speed control and position control. Arduino was used as the microcontroller for speed and rotation control. The final deliverable satisfied the five design requirements as confirmed with the corresponding design verification protocols.
