Simplified Structure for Parameterizing Lp-Norm-Minimized Variable Filters

A recursive digital filter can be designed to have tunable band-widths, but the designed variable filter must be stable. This paper aims to reduce the implementation complexity of an even-order recursive variable bandpass (VBP) filter that is designed by using the Lp-norm minimization of magnitude errors. The basic idea is to parameterize each coefficient of the even-order VBP-filter as a polynomial, and the degrees of those polynomials are different. This unequal-degree parameterization can reduce the degrees of some polynomials that represent the coefficients of the even-order VBP filte, and thus simplifies the filter structure. An example is included for showing the reduction of polynomial degrees.
