Recognition of Chinese place names based on ontology

This paper first analyzes the shortcomings of recognition Chinese place names from texts in domestic natural language processing field,then proposes a method of recognition Chinese place names based on ontology.This method recognizes Chinese administrative division names using ontology under GATE environment,makes them correspond to specific geographic locations on the earth's surface,then gives them geographic coordinates and geographical semantics.It focuses on building place name ontology,geoparsing and geo/non-geo,geo/geo disambiguation during geocoding.The results of experiment shows the method have a more satisfactory precision and recall,and geo/non-geo and geo/geo disambiguation algorithms is feasible and effective.
