Ranking Semantic Web Ontologies with ELECTRE
Jean Vincent Fonou-Dombeu · 2019
Ontology reuse is an important task in Semantic Web development today. To reuse ontologies, users must choose amongst the available ontologies those that meet their requirements. This is a decision-making problem. However, there has been a limited use of decision-making methods on ontologies to date. This study applies a popular multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) method, namely, elimination and choice translating reality (ELECTRE) in ontologies ranking. The decision scheme is formulated with a set of ontologies or alternatives and a number of complexity metrics or attributes of the ontologies. Seventy ontologies of the biomedical domain are used to conduct the experiments. The results display the effectiveness of ELECTRE and provide more insights on the use of decision-making methods in ontology ranking.
