The amount of data generated from mobile gadgets, sensors and other computing devices has created the Big Data concept. In this context, NoSQL database management systems (DBMS) have become popular due to greater performance for manipulating big datasets with alternative data models. Many cloud computing services have adopted NoSQL DBMSs, but the assessment of quality of service (QoS) has additional challenges for these systems. This paper presents an approach based on generalized stochastic Petri nets (GSPN) for performability evaluation of private cloud computing environments that adopt NoSQL DBMS as the storage system. Models are presented to jointly estimate throughput and availability, which are prominent QoS indicators. Experiments are carried out to demonstrate the practical feasibility of the proposed technique.
