Technology's Influence on White‐Collar Offending, Reporting, and Investigation
Thomas J. Holt, Jay P. Kennedy · 2019
The creation and adoption of the internet and computer technologies have dramatically changed the potential for crime and deviant behavior on- and offline. Some of these offenses constitute white-collar crimes, or may potentially impact businesses and consumers in various contexts. This chapter will elaborate on these issues by defining the problem of cybercrime and the range of offenses enabled by technology. Differences in the nature of cybercrime offending in and out of businesses will also be examined, as will the organizations and entities responsible for policing these offenses. The chapter concludes with recommendations to improve our knowledge of these offenses through scholarly research.
