Using hands as an easy UAV joystick for entertainment applications
Maria De Marsico, Alessandro Spagnoli · 2019
This work presents an advanced interface allowing to easily maneuver a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), better popularly known as drone, in entertainment settings. The proposal exploits a consumer mobile device, e.g., a smartphone or a tablet, to capture the operator's hand image and movement. The application recognizes a few allowed natural and intuitive movements, and communicates the corresponding commands to the drone. At the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt in literature to provide a complete natural interface for this task via a mobile device, though in the limited scope of entertainment. A preliminary user study testified the accuracy of the driving control and the quality of the user experience.
