Boundary Management Between Factual Constraints and Emotional Ties

Modern mobile information and communication technology (ICT) allows connectivity anyplace and anytime. This entails flexibility and new opportunities for organising life domains (e.g., working from home). At the same time unwanted overlaps between life domains can lead to stress. In this paper we present a qualitative explorative interview study on life domains, which provides insight into their types and boundaries. Furthermore, we report on ecologies of devices and applications, factual constraints and emotional ties. We draw conclusions with implications for the design of mobile ICT.
